Some Jewelry

I must say I struggle with making jewelry that someone has ordered, especially when they give me so many stipulations...I like to be able to just start creating and see what I end up making. Sometimes I start and restart several times...and sometimes I just can't work with certain beads so I have to start over completely. I just got a new camera and I am sad to say I can't figure out how to take closeup pictures of my stuff. The piece above is so pretty but you can't really see it. It is pearls and smokey crystals.

I make matching earrings for just about every bracelet that I make and most sets sell for less that $10.00 (except for the sets with a necklace)
I am lucky to make money selling my crafts...it is a fun hobby that has begun to finally make a profit!...Yeah! (I am sure Cory is happy)

Giveaway in August

I have this cute little FHE board that I made and was thinking it needed a home...so for the month of August all the comments will go in a box and at the end of the month I will draw one and someone will have a new FHE board along with as many tags as they need!
If you win you can pick it up or if you live far away you can pay to have it shipped!
My camera comes home today so I will post some pictures of the fun projects I have been working on later this weekend...its my birthday today and I haven't seen my husband for 2 weeks so I doubt I will get to it right away! Maybe early next week look for a few more posts!

Another Fun Project

Today I am showing how to alter a slide mailer that is made of chipboard...they are pretty cheap on line if you get them from a medical supply place but you do have to buy 50! I am placing an order so if anyone wants a few just let me know.

Next I usually paint the slip part because it is really hard to modpodge in the groves...I used spray paint here but you can use craft paint as well.
Next I found some cute double sided chatterbox paper in my stash and modpodged both the inside and the outside. Do one flap at a time and be sure to sand your edges before you move on to the next side. Ink all edges in a coordinating color...I used peeled paint because it is the best green on the market!!

After your edges are all done its time to do my favorite...embellish!
I am kind of wierd in that I have no idea what direction I am going until I get there...I just liked the paper and found some random letters and then this little card took on a life of its own! On the outside I added a flower and some chipboard letters.

On the inside I used rubons and rummaged through all my left over letters to spell BEST. I covered the word friends with diamond glaze and added some bling and voila...its finished!
Secretly I wanted it to say we r bestest friends but I couldn't fit it...but that is just between us!
Lastly I finished my sign for the store I am selling this little treasure in...what do you think?

Altered Letter "How To"

First, go to Michaels...or your favorite scrapbook store that carries the Provo Craft letters.
Gently sand the letter and remove any staples on the back.

Choose some super cute paper...I prefer the lighter weight paper...it seems to mold to the letter better than the heavier paper.
Mod podge your letter with a light to medium coat...try not to have gobs of mod podge, try to make it as smooth as possible!
Take your pretty paper and turn it over so the pretty side is facing down. If you are using a paper that is directional...like writing make sure you apply your letter so everything is right side up.
Place your letter on your paper and press down...I like to slide it around a bit to help with making sure the mod podge is well distributed.
Turn letter over...if you have made a mistake remove paper immediately...paper will be ruined but the letter should wipe clean with a damp cloth.
If you have a brayer (rubber roller) run over the letter to remove air and any bubbles of glue. If you do not own a brayer...shame on you! But a lint roller will work or a dry sponge if you are desperate.
Let letter dry...if you live in AZ that takes about 10 minutes...if you live in PA that could take a few hours depending on whether its 100% humidity or just 98%!
Turn dry letter over so paper is facing down...using a exacto knife carefully cut our letter. If it tears that means it is not dry...don't worry about stuff hanging over we will take care of that in a bit.
Using a sanding block sand all edges you can reach until edges are all smooth...do not do a crappy job sanding...I will hunt you down and redo it and shake my head and tisk tisk the whole time.
Seriously, sanding makes all the difference...use an emery board for the finite stuff and the places you can't reach with the block.

After you have sanded now you can emblellish with letters, rubons, flowers and ofcourse some bling!
With this particular letter I choose not to ink the edges but that is not generally the case...use a small makeup sponge and ink your edges!
This letter comes with holes drilled so all you have to do is hang this baby up.
Side note: if you are doing an entire name...lay out all your letters and choose your paper...what I think would look great up on the wall almost always changes once I lay it all out. (Maybe that is just my scatter brain)

Hello friends...new and old!
This new blog will be just a place to put up my different art projects that I am currently working on and some of my finished projects.
With this blog I will show my art and give basic directions on how I did them!
It is my hope to inspire others and get positive feedback!
